Avebury is a small village in Wiltshire in the south of England and home of the famous stone circle. Although this circle is the biggest in Britain and probably the best known there are many more very remarkable monuments and relicts from the early to the late Neolithic period in the area which is therefore called the Avebury complex.

Silbury Hill is the largest man-made prehistoric structure in Europe and still a mystery..

The stone circle itself has a diameter of 400 m and enclosures two (and one probably unfinished third one) older stone circles and other settings, like a cove. The biggest erected stones have a weight of more than 50 t. From the circle two stone rows or avenues started. The Kennet Avenue leading south east to the Sanctuary and the Beckhampton avenue south west. Both avenues were several miles long each.
